In this episode we dis­cuss a new instal­la­tion at Artsville: “We Orange The World”

Orange is the sig­na­ture col­or of the Unit­ed Nations women’s UNiTE cam­paign, and it rep­re­sents a future free from gen­der-based vio­lence. The instal­la­tion “We Orange the World”, now open at Artsville gal­leries, embraces both the cheer of the col­or, and the men­ace of gen­der-based violence.

“We Orange the World” fea­tures the work of four women artists. The project is open Novem­ber 25th through Decem­ber 10th and invites Sec­ond Life Res­i­dents to explore exhibits and instal­la­tions, enjoy live music and par­ties, hear poet­ry that inspires, and col­lect quite a num­ber of spe­cial gifts avail­able in the cen­tral plaza of the instal­la­tion. The four fea­tured gal­leries are very dis­tinct, and all mix emo­tion­al res­o­nance with call to advo­ca­cy from artists Tess, Selen, Deb­o­rakaz and  Ilyra. The work is as brave as it is var­ied, with a vari­ety of styles and medi­ums involved.

The exhib­it coin­cides with the UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism — an oppor­tu­ni­ty to revi­tal­ize com­mit­ments, and call for account­abil­i­ty and action from deci­sion-mak­ers, as the world approach­es the 30th anniver­sary of the Bei­jing Dec­la­ra­tion and Plat­form for Action in 2025 – a vision­ary blue­print for achiev­ing gen­der equal­i­ty and women’s and girls’ rights everywhere.
