The lat­est edi­tion of VCRa­dio’s orig­i­nal series on things to do and places to vis­it across the Sec­ond Life Grid, vis­its two muse­ums that offer sim­i­lar, and con­trast­ing con­tent for res­i­dents to enjoy.  The show pre­mieres on Feb­ru­ary 9th and airs at 12 noon and 4pm Pacific/SLT, that’s 8pm and mid­night in the UK. It’ll run on Wednes­days and Sat­ur­days at the same times for the next two weeks.

In this episode, #3 of our sec­ond sea­son, we dis­cuss two very dif­fer­ent museums .

Cre­at­ed and curat­ed by Haiku Quan, The Free Muse­um is quite lit­er­al­ly a muse­um full of free stuff — in this case, free art.   Haiku has col­lect­ed over 70 works of art by some impres­sive names in SL art includ­ing Bryn Oh, Mile­na Car­bone, Alpha Auer, Cica Ghost, nes­suno Myoo, and many oth­ers. Guests are invit­ed to take a free copy of every work exhib­it­ed. There is noth­ing for sale or any solic­i­ta­tions at all.

The Raven­heart Muse­um of Art, Cul­ture, and Curi­ous Things is locat­ed in Rose­haven Lau­danum — and, we should men­tion, is a sup­port­er of Vir­tu­al Com­mu­ni­ty Radio from time to time.  The Raven­heart — owned by Talus Raven­heart — is a dif­fer­ent kind of Muse­um. While they do some art exhi­bi­tions — like one they pre­sent­ed fea­tur­ing Van Gogh’s sun­flower paint­ings — they also do more spe­cial­ized exhibits of the cul­ture — his­to­ry sort. Like the recent exhib­it The Wolf Moon:  A Study of Were­wolves!

We also men­tion Muse­um Island, which is won­der­ful and exact­ly the sort of thing we think of when we think of muse­ums in Sec­ond Life. There are over two dozen recre­ations of impor­tant cul­tur­al sites from around the world and infor­ma­tion about them — their lore and his­to­ry: every­thing from The Ishtar Gate to the Well of St. Patrick.
