It’s Mar­di Gras time here on Vir­tu­al Com­mu­ni­ty Radio, and our Fea­tured Genre will be the music of Car­ni­val and Mar­di Gras, from New Orleans to Latin Amer­i­ca and beyond, plus some old-time R&B and Trad Jazz.

In addi­tion, you can hear an episode of our orig­i­nal series, Where Have You Been? where we dis­cuss things to do and places to vis­it across the SL Grid: 12 noon and 4pm SLT/Pacific.

And don’t miss  The Engines of Our Inge­nu­ity from The Uni­ver­si­ty of Hous­ton’s Col­lege of Engi­neer­ing — a series about the machines that make our civ­i­liza­tion run, and the peo­ple whose inge­nu­ity cre­at­ed them — every four hours from 4am SLT/Pacific.

Wednes­day, March 29th, and today our Fea­tured Music is Vocal Mag­ic — pieces from sev­er­al gen­res explor­ing the musi­cal capa­bil­i­ties of the human voice.

Then we have for you the lat­est episode of our orig­i­nal series, “Where Have You Been?”, where we sug­gest things to do and places to vis­it around the Sec­ond Life Grid. This time,  we vis­it Arm­strong Park, a Sec­ond Life depic­tion of the park in New Orleans that cel­e­brates jazz musi­cian Louis Arm­strong.  Tune in at 12 noon or 4pm Pacific/SLT. Plus “Engines of Our Inge­nu­ity” from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Hous­ton every four hours from 4am Pacif­ic. We used to play the same episode of “Engines” through­out the day, but now, if you’re lucky, you can catch as many as three.

Sun­day, Feb­ru­ary 27th from 2–4pm SLT — Join us for a Dance Par­ty on the Cre­ole Queen, live in Sec­ond Life.  DJ Cale­do­nia Sky­tow­er will be play­ing jazz, Cajun, and Zyde­co music on our ele­gant riv­er boat, appro­pri­ate­ly decked out for the occa­sion. No need to bring your beads — we’ve got them! Join us at The Queen, or on-the-air, as we Lais­sez les bons temps rouler !

And tune in for a final chance to hear the lat­est episode of our orig­i­nal series, Tarot @ Teatime, 12 noon and 4pm Pacific/SLT — 8pm and mid­night in the UK.

It’s Mar­di Gras week­end here on Vir­tu­al Com­mu­ni­ty Radio, and our cel­e­bra­tions on Feb­ru­ary 26 and 27th cen­tre around the Cre­ole Queen, our tra­di­tion­al river­boat, docked at Chest­nut Hills in Sec­ond Life.

TODAY Sat­ur­day, Feb­ru­ary 26th — Our Fea­tured Genre will be the music of Car­ni­val and Mar­di Gras from New Orleans to Latin Amer­i­ca and beyond, plus some old-time R&B and Trad Jazz.

Then at 1–2pm Pacific/SLT — Come along to the Cre­ole Queen for a Live Tarot Read­ing with VCRa­dio’s Tarot @ Teatime co-host Hon­ey Heart. Stroll on the banks of the riv­er and request a per­son­al read­ing of the cards. All read­ings are free, con­duct­ed pri­vate­ly in Voice, and are strict­ly con­fi­den­tial and for enter­tain­ment pur­pos­es only.

And at 12 noon and 4pm Pacific/SLT (8pm or mid­night in the UK) tune in for a spe­cial Mar­di Gras edi­tion of Where Have You Been? which cov­ers some of the his­to­ry and back­ground to Mar­di Gras and Car­ni­val and sug­gests an addi­tion­al venue you might like to vis­it between now and “Fat Tues­day” itself, March 1.

It’s a spe­cial about Mar­di Gras — “Fat Tues­day”, which falls this year on March 1st. In the episode we pro­vide plen­ty of back­ground to the Mar­di Gras and Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions, focus­ing on New Orleans in par­tic­u­lar, plus we make a sug­ges­tion of a place you might want to vis­it to enjoy your own Mar­di Gras celebration.
