“Where Have You Been?”: Duelling Museums!
The latest edition of VCRadio’s original series on things to do and places to visit across the Second Life Grid, visits two museums that offer similar, and contrasting content for residents to enjoy. The show premieres on February 9th and airs at 12 noon and 4pm Pacific/SLT, that’s 8pm and midnight in the UK. It’ll run on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the same times for the next two weeks.
In this episode, #3 of our second season, we discuss two very different museums .
Created and curated by Haiku Quan, The Free Museum is quite literally a museum full of free stuff — in this case, free art. Haiku has collected over 70 works of art by some impressive names in SL art including Bryn Oh, Milena Carbone, Alpha Auer, Cica Ghost, nessuno Myoo, and many others. Guests are invited to take a free copy of every work exhibited. There is nothing for sale or any solicitations at all.
The Ravenheart Museum of Art, Culture, and Curious Things is located in Rosehaven Laudanum — and, we should mention, is a supporter of Virtual Community Radio from time to time. The Ravenheart — owned by Talus Ravenheart — is a different kind of Museum. While they do some art exhibitions — like one they presented featuring Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings — they also do more specialized exhibits of the culture — history sort. Like the recent exhibit The Wolf Moon: A Study of Werewolves!
We also mention Museum Island, which is wonderful and exactly the sort of thing we think of when we think of museums in Second Life. There are over two dozen recreations of important cultural sites from around the world and information about them — their lore and history: everything from The Ishtar Gate to the Well of St. Patrick.
