British Composers

Today we present a programme of classical, light classical and film music by British composers, both well-known and too often forgotten, from past and present, including some historic recordings conducted by the composers.

The programme includes music by Sir Arthur Bliss, Christopher Gunning, Jon Lord and Richard Harvey, along with pieces by Addinsell, Alwyn, Walton, Elgar, Handel and many more.

In addition, tune in for the latest episodes of “Where’ve You Been?” — 12 noon and 4pm Pacific / 8pm and midnight in the UK — and “Engines of Our Ingenuity”, every 4 hours from 4am Pacific. We’ll also be giving information about what we are doing at the Second Life 18th Birthday Celebrations, where we have our own exhibit and will be presenting several live programmes.

This link will take you to an interactive version on the National Portrait Gallery web site, where you can zoom in and identify the composers (not all of whom, I’m afraid, are represented in today’s programme) and even purchase a copy.
